Friday 6th March

You should have completed the glued down ‘jigsaws’ of your cut up photographs (two creations please!) and two tonal drawings based on these. You should also have written a reflection on what the task was, why you think we were doing it, and whether or not you think it was helpful in creating your abstract portrait. Please also include which creation you prefer.

Bring 3-4 colour photocopied/ printed pics of yourself for the next session. These should be of a similar size to each other (doesnt have to be exact) and of head and shoulders only. They can be of various different angles.

You have started working on your research project for this unit- please select one portrait/ full body cubist painting from two different artists of your choice (ONE MUST BE AN EXAMPLE OF ANALYTICAL CUBISM AND ONE AN EXAMPLE OF SYNTHETIC CUBISM). List the title, the name of the artist, the medium used and the size. You must also include a high quality colour print out of both portraits stuck into your developmental workbook.

First Artist portrait

Please describe in detail what is in the picture.

Discuss what the underlying meanings of the picture may be and what is says to you.

Discuss why you think the artist has created this image.

Discuss your personal views on analytical/ synthetic cubism based on this image.

Second Artists portrait

Please describe in detail what is in the picture.

Discuss what the underlying meanings of the picture may be and what is says to you.

Discuss why you think the artist has created this image.

Discuss your personal views on analytical/ synthetic cubism based on this image.

Compare the two pieces discussing visual effects, mediums and techniques and over all message/ impact and reiterate your feelings about analytical and synthetic cubism based on your comparison.

State your preference and why.

I will give you until the Tuesday of the week after the CNY holidays to complete this. It will be due on 3rd March.
